I Can: Repurpose and Get Organized!
Tuesday, January 3rd, 2012It’s only the third day of January and I’m already getting sick of hearing about New Year’s resolutions and getting organized. To me it just seems like a lot of talk, and not a whole lot of action. All these people vowing to get their stuff in order, to make a fresh start… and how many of them actually end up getting to check “get organized” off their to-do list by the end of the year? Not many.
That’s why this blog post isn’t going to be about getting organized. It’s going to be about HOW you can get organized… with one simple craft project! An easy DIY project is something I can totally get behind.
So without further ado, here is an awesome project I found from Me Making Do, via Remodel Aholic:
Recycled cans turned into a cute craft supply organizer:
Basically all you have to do is round up six empty cans, make them a pretty color of your choice using Krylon spray paint, glue them together and then attach a handle made out of some jute rope. The rest is up to you, but for the craft caddy pictured above, Heather used a strip of burlap and some pretty, decorative ribbon to add some nice flair to her organizer.
Don’t you just LOVE the idea of turning old aluminum cans into something so cute and handy? Plus it doesn’t hurt that this project can be made very inexpensively!
If you’re anything like me — meaning you love the idea of craft projects but aren’t super crafty — you’ll love this simple DIY idea. It’s sooo easy!
Here are some other simple projects you can make to get yourself organized in 2012:
- A flip flop organizer from old hangers, via Epbot
- A modular bookcase from salvaged drawers, via Crafty Nest
- A soup storage solution from a recycled soda box, via Then She Made
- A junk organizer for the fridge made from a cereal box, via There’s a Hole in My Bucket
And of course you can always check out the organizer tutorials on our sister sites, AllFreeSewing and FaveCrafts!
Happy 2012 to you all! Hope it’s a crafty one!
Tell me: Have you ever made your own organizer before?

So Many Supplies, So Little Space!
Wednesday, December 28th, 2011As crafters, many of us also tend to be hoarders… at least when it comes to supplies. If you’re anything like me, you probably have skein upon skein of yarn in your craft closet, sheets of fabric strewn every which way in your living room, and piles of scrapbook paper covering your coffee table. It’s just way too hard to resist sales at the craft store, and I always end up turning my living space into my own personal craft shop! I always thought this was great… I’d never have to run to the craft store for supplies since I was always stocked to the brim… but recently my craft stash got so out of control that I feel like I should be on an episode of the TV show “Hoarders”!
So what’s a crafty girl to do? If your goal in 2012 is to organize your supply stash, whether it’s yarn and hooks, fabric, paper and stamps, or anything else crafty, we’ve gathered some inspiration for you and also have recommendations on ways to stash your stuff so that they’re always handy, but out of your way.
First, take a look at these oh-so-organized craft rooms and let that serve as inspiration for you as we head into 2012. These ladies sure do have their supplies in order!

Get Organized with the ArtBin Hook and Needle Case
Thursday, May 12th, 2011If you’ve been keeping up, then you should be able to guess what’s next. Yes, this is another blog post about convenience! Am I really becoming that predictable? Probably. Let’s face it, you know it and I know it. I’m a klutz. Carrying around a bunch of needles and knitting patterns is cumbersome and impractical. Yes, I have lost needles. Probably because, for a while, I was rubber-banding them together in a big group (I know, please don’t yell).
Well take a peek at this handy little case ladies!
Now I’m finally organized (and not losing anything). Let me tell you, this thing is durable. The inside has something like cardboard that helps keep it’s shape so that there are no hard edges, which is more handy than you might think. The fabrics are a sturdy canvas and nylon, so I’m confident that all of my needles are safe. It has, at the moment, too many pockets for me. I have plenty of space to carry around up to 14″ needles, my circular needles, my mini Kacha-Kacha knitting counter, and even knitting patterns that I’ve collected from skeins. And the best thing is everything is now all in one place and I can easily carry it around with me. Knitting on my lunch break has become more convenient (I swear I will learn to spell that word without spell check one of these days!). And don’t worry crocheters! It’s got plenty of room for crochet hooks and patterns as well.
I strongly suggest you try it out. I love my mine. It’s definitely worth it.
And if you do try it, let me know: Did it get you organized?
If this isn’t exactly your cup of tea, I picked out some other organizers for you! You’re welcome.
